I started a little while after I had beaten prophecies and cantha. I never really got into it though, I always felt it was too hard to win. Random arenas isn't too forgiving on newcomers...

In terms of REAL PvP... October 09? >_> Before that, only lame shit like JQ/AB/FA, etc.
Started PvE in 2007. Got to smelly guild hall (5), PvE got zzzzzzz boring, started GvG. Did all dungeons in NM/HM, all mostly everything in both modes.
Do wish I had started PvP years ago, but there's nothing to be done for that, now Plan to start PvP in GW2 right away, so it's not such a climb up a really steep, slippery mountain.

I started PvPing after I beat Prophecies (there was only Prophecies when I started), so then me and a group of guildies I beat the game with decided the next step would be pvp. Sorrow's Furnace was introduced then, so we were sidetracked for a few months, but we eventually got into pvp together, and gvged together for a good two years or so before most of us quit.
So I guess I started pvping after beating my first campaign and farming a bit...about 3 and a half years ago or so. I definitely think it was better to start with PvE. We got a feel for the game and a feel for how we all played together. Those 5 man oro runs using the two monk henchies instead of players got us pretty in sync with each other

I never really did, despite having an account since mid 05. I'm more of a PvE guy, and it didn't help that for the most part my playtime is inconsistent and unreliable, and I never was motivated enough to get past the 'complete failure at PvP' stage. I did mean to get into codex arena, but I got distracted by various things, and I wasn't playing much then anyway.

My movement into PvP began during the Wintersday Event of '05, when I played a lot of Snowball. That coupled with having unlocked a large portion of upgrades and skills through general PvE play gave me the starting ground for entering other casual forms of PvP. I haven't been extremely serious about it though, so the farthest I've gone in PvP is frequent participation in the Snowball ATs.

When did it all start? Try when Prince Rurik unknowingly thrust me against another team of 4 stout-hearted players right before the Searing. "What is this.. I don't even..?". But the battle had begun. Dazed and confused I was forced to turn on my brothers in arms and strike them down as the Prince looked on. And for what? A blue number counter that increased as our massacre continued? All for the sick pleasure of a Prince who was rightfully exiled. While the Ascalonian's were bravely trying to defend against the Charr onslaught, Rurik was busy playing God.
Yeah. I remember my first time in PvP.

Went through Prophecies on my first character back when the game was shiny new. Then after finishing the storyline, I started to take my second character through the game. However the casual PvE guild I was in at the time disintegrated from people losing interest in the game, and I was growing bored of slogging through the game a second time. So about 4 1/2 years ago I got into doing Tombs, and from there quickly found a guild to do GvG with. Still did some PvE here and there after I started GvGing in earnest, but my time was split around 70% PvP 30% PvE. Fast forward to the present and the only reason I get on anymore is for GvG.

July 05 when I got the game.
After 8 days of pve'ing I got dragged into some ~r400 gvg and found it was amazingly awesome.
I had my breaks, both from the game and pvp, but that was what made me come back repeatedly.

Played through proph+factions five times before trying to make a GvG guild with RL friends in ~summer 2006, which went nowhere. Left that to join XoO bootcamp in September or so; left for the real world in January 2007.

Fall 2005, had no desire to play another pvp game after WC3 until I tried GvG and loved it.

My first PvP would have probably been March 2005. I know I didnt play any on my first beta weekend, because wandering around presearing was way too interesting. At the end of the February beta I had made it to Lion's Arch, and by the end of the March beta, The Henge of Denravi, so I started PvP somewhere between those two. My focus switched to PvP from late 2005 onwards. Quit high level PvP 2007.
I dont wish I had done anything different.

About a year and a half ago, but even this was too late because the ladder had died and HA was being dominated by high-ranked guilds.
I've since forced my way into GvG/HA guilds and acquired some ranks, but I'm still nothing like the "oldschool".
I decided when I finally beat all 3 campaigns that pve was boring. Especially with triple necro - nothing is difficult any more.
Which is why I enjoy pvp so much, because I'm not the best and because everything is a challenge.
